Meet the Ascent Ministry Staff
Ryan Gritters is the director of Ascent Ministries. He is a graduate of Dordt College and has devoted many years of his life to working with college student ministry. Outside of Ascent Ministries, Ryan enjoys endurance sports, such as road races and triathlons, as well as camping, hiking and learning.

Jean Holthaus, LISW is the Associate Director of Ascent Ministries. She has a masters degree in counseling and has been a Christian therapist for 16 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in teaching and was a school teacher for 10 years. Jean has a 23 year-old daughter and a 21 year-old son and loves being a mom. She also enjoys walking with people as they experience God’s healing presence in their lives.

Jeffrey Faust is an urban core missionary and is married to Natalie Faust. He graduated from Central College in ’07 and studied Communication. He is passionate about leadership and vision for the church. Jeff enjoys wildlife, adventure, sports, and trying new experiences.

Lance Ibeling coordinates service projects in Kansas City and works with college students. He grew up in rural Ackley, IA, graduated from Central College in ’07 and currently resides in Kansas City, MO. He loves staying active,problem solving, cars, the farm, warming up the old glove, and spending time with friends new and old.

Emily DePenning is part of the college ministry staff as well as living in Kansas City as an urban missionary. Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Emily graduated from Central College in 2010 with a double major in Spanish and Religion. A woman of many interests and small delights, she enjoys the outdoors, singing (especially jazz), fiction, adventures, tea, experiencing other cultures, swedish fish, writing, and trees. She has been surprised by the satisfying and healing presence of God, and wants others to experience the same.

Aaron Jones graduated from Central College in 2010 and serves with Ascent as an urban missionary investing in college students: Midwestern to Middle Eastern. Music is woven into his soul, and leading worship becomes interaction with a living, loving God. An explorer of distant lands and different cultures, he loves depth in ideas, conversations, and relationships.
